Formulation and Evaluation of Polyherbal Powder Shampoo

Abstract
The present study was aimed to formulate and evaluate a polyherbal powder shampoo using natural herbal ingredients possessing cleansing, anti-dandruff, conditioning, and hair growth promoting properties. Herbal shampoos are widely accepted because of their safety, effectiveness, biodegradability, and fewer side effects compared to synthetic shampoos. In the present work, herbal shampoo powder was prepared using Shikakai, Neem, Hibiscus, Tulsi, Brahmi, Liquorice, Amla, Aloe vera, and Bhringraj powders. The collected plant materials were shade dried, powdered, sieved, and mixed in suitable proportions to prepare the formulation. The prepared herbal shampoo powder was evaluated for organoleptic properties, particle size, angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, pH, washability, solubility, dirt dispersion, moisture content, wetting time, foaming index, skin irritation test, and stability studies. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, and terpenoids in the formulation. The evaluation studies indicated that the prepared formulation possessed good flow properties, satisfactory foaming ability, acceptable pH, easy washability, and good stability. The formulation showed no skin or eye irritation and was found suitable for regular use. The study concluded that polyherbal powder shampoo can be used as a safe and effective natural alternative to synthetic shampoos for healthy hair care.
