Comparative Analysis of Financial Performance Between HDFC Bank and Karur Vysya Bank in Tiruchirappalli City

Abstract
The banking sector is the cornerstone of any economy, playing a pivotal role in capital mobilisation, credit distribution, and financial intermediation. India's banking landscape comprises a diverse array of institutions ranging from large private sector banks to regional and old-generation private banks. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of the financial performance of HDFC Bank one of India's largest and most prominent new-generation private sector banks — and Karur Vysya Bank (KVB), a well-established old-generation private sector bank with a strong regional presence in South India. This comparative study contributes to the growing body of literature on Indian banking performance and serves as a reference for stakeholders seeking to understand the competitive dynamics between large-scale and regional private sector banks. The study concludes that while scale and technological advancement drive HDFC Bank's superiority, KVB's niche positioning and regional strengths make it a fundamentally sound institution with significant growth potential.
